USRA is dedicated to developing and maintaining the highest caliber workforce necessary to carry out its missions, and believes that this goal requires a workforce that is diverse and broadly inclusive of members from underrepresented groups. Promoting and attaining broad participation is a core USRA business principle—a diversity of thought and experience results in a more interesting, and innovative place to work, higher employee morale and retention, and ultimately, a more successful organization.
USRA's goals include 1) maintaining an excellent workforce which understands, and respects individual differences, and 2) weaving diversity into USRA's corporate fabric by integrating diversity principles into all policies, business processes, and practices. In order to meet these goals, USRA employs proactive measures to ensure employment and personnel actions are reflective of these diversity principles, and educates the workforce on diversity and the benefits of a diverse workforce by offering diversity training, educational programs, and awareness events designed to celebrate diversity.
USRA has an appointed Diversity Advocate who formally coordinates all diversity plans and activities on behalf of the organization. It is the Diversity Advocate's role to collaborate and coordinate with senior leadership on matters relating to diversity workforce planning and development and diversity advocacy.
The USRA President and Chief Executive Officer reports annually to the Board of Trustees on Diversity and Inclusion strategies and plans. These plans include the outreach of people in underrepresented groups (i.e. women, minorities, disabled, and veterans) as part of the strategic recruiting process for USRA.
Each USRA program establishes a diversity specific performance metric on an annual basis. This performance metric is intended to ensure that at the operational level all Institute Directors are aware and advocate for equal employment for all employee and applicants.
