Professional Development for Future Mission Support Staff

At the request of NASA Ames Education Office, USRA assumed interim management of the Ames Community College Education and Development Program (ACCEDP). Through this program, students from the 17 community colleges within a 50-mile radius of NASA's Ames Research Center receive hands-on experience in a government facility. As a career development program, ACCEDP focuses on the development of technical knowledge, critical skills, and administrative capabilities that are crucial to mission success. The ACCEDP program supports the NASA Education Framework to inspire, engage, and prepare (for employment) the next generation of explorers and to to support the professional development of STEM and NASA Mission Support (STEM-M) faculty and staff.

Within the first three months of USRA management, over 250 students applied for internships in the fall and spring terms in which they would work with NASA researchers. This reflects USRA's goal to reach a broad rance of tertiary educational institutions and draw talented college students into the space program.

USRA has managed the Ames College Education and Development Program since July 2011.
