Columbia, MD and Washington, DC, December 12, 2016 - Universities Space Research Association today announced the appointment of Paula King as Vice President, Human Resources. Ms. King will start her new position at USRA on January 1, 2017.
"Paula brings broad human resources leadership experience to USRA, which will further strengthen our organization into the future. In the lead human resources role, she will be responsible for providing an integrated, collaborative human resources team across programs and disciplines, in support of USRA's strategic initiatives," said Dr. Jeffrey Isaacson, President and CEO, Universities Space Research Association.
Ms. King currently serves as Senior Vice President at NeighborWorks™ America, a congressionally chartered nonprofit organization that supports community development in the United States. Prior to joining NeighborWorks in 2012, she served as Vice President for Operations and Chief Human Resources Officer at the U.S. Institute of Peace, an organization established through an Act of Congress in 1984 that is dedicated to preventing, mitigating, and resolving violent conflicts around the world.
Before her tenure at the Institute of Peace, she served as Director of Human Resources at the International Life Sciences Institute, and was a compensation analyst at Children's National Medical Center. During her career, she developed many new initiatives for organizations while fine-tuning existing programs and operations.
Ms. King holds an M.S.A. in Human Resources from Central Michigan University, and a B.S. in Business and Management: Personnel and Labor Relations from the University of Maryland. She also holds certifications as a senior professional in human resources (SPHR), a senior certified professional (SHRM-SCP), a human capital strategist (HCS), and is a certified mediator.
Founded in 1969, under the auspices of the National Academies of Science, Universities Space Research Association is an independent, nonprofit research corporation which offers an avenue for government and industry to engage the expertise of the academic community together with USRA's own technical leadership, innovative R&D, operational excellence, management of premier facilities and education programs to advance space- and aeronautics-related sciences and exploration.
